With sixteen years of experience and local knowledge, Southwest School of Ballet offers top-quality ballet classes for all ages and abilities.

We aim to promote a love of dance in an imaginative and stimulating environment and to nurture and encourage our students to fulfil their potential. Accomplished and experienced pianists accompany all our children’s classes.

We offer Royal Academy of Dance examinations from Grade 1
(The Garage Studio is a Royal Academy of Dance-registered examination centre). 

We also aim to offer students performance opportunites. Full-length original productions have included ‘The Water Babies’, ‘The Gallery of Passing Time’ and ‘The Lonely Princess’ and a new production is planned for spring 2010.

Ballet prices

Babies: 2½ to 4 years 35-minute classes.	£76 per term
Pre-primary: 4 to 6 years 45-minute classes.	£84 per term
Primary: 5½ to 7 years 45-minute classes.	£84 per term

Grades: Royal Academy of Dance Examinations and Presentation Classes from Grade 1 are part of our curriculum but are by no means compulsory. The minimum age requirement for Grade 1 is 7 years old.

Grade 1: 45-minute classes.	£84 per term
Grade 2: 50-minute classes.	£89 per term
Grade 3: 1 hour classes.	£89 per term

The Youth Dance Ensemble

TYDE is a new performance based training scheme for dancers aged 8-18 years.

Six two hour Sunday sessions will be held each term consisting of a variety of technique classes in various genres (ballet, jazz, contemporary, street dance etc.) and choreographic workshops will lead to a performance at the end of the term.

Candidates will ideally have dance experience in at least one genre as the project is designed to enhance dance training, rather than replace it.

Auditions

Audition Dates: 04 Sept (now full), 11 Sept for Autumn Term.

Term Dates

Autumn 2011 term dates are: 18 Sept, 2 Oct, 16 Oct, 06 Nov, 20 Nov, 04 Dec.

Fees

The fee is: £100 per term.

About Claire Sibley (Artistic Director)

Claire Sibley BA (Hons) LRAD CDE RTS.

Claire teaches Ballet and Modern dance at Tring Park School for Performing Arts and The National Youth Ballet. Claire is an approved RAD tutor on the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies training future dance teachers. Prior to this, Claire taught ballet in New York where her students starred in Broadway's Mary Poppin's and numerous other shows. Whilst in New York Claire worked as a choreographer with the Rockland Youth Dance Ensemble and was invited to provide private tuition to students of American Ballet Theatre. Claire gained her BA (Hons) in the Art and Teaching of Ballet from the Royal Academy of Dance and was awarded the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance for excellence in teaching.

BELLY DANCING
Krystina

Krystina (Chris Gould) has been teaching Egyptian-style belly dance at the Garage Studio for nearly ten years, offering classes at Beginner, Improver and Intermediate levels.

She breaks down and communicates moves with humour, enthusiasm and patience, making the classes accessible, informative and fun.

Students have opportunities to show off their newly learnt skills at local summer fairs, end-of-term student performances and an end-of-year show.

TRIBAL FUSION

Tree               

This class is an exhilarating mixture of yoga, Gothic Belly Dance and Tribal Fusion.
Drawing on her circus skills, Tree uses props such as swords, candleholders, fireballs,
fire fans and poi (all extinguished!) to make the class even more challenging and fun. All shapes, ages and abilities are welcome, though some belly dance experience helps.

Please wear loose clothing such as yoga trousers.
