Pilates

The Pilates Method, created by Joseph Pilates in the 1930s, has grown to become one of today’s most successful and respected exercise systems because it can work for everybody and is enjoyable to do.

Practised regularly, Pilates increases body awareness and builds a balanced, strong and supple body:

  • Focusing the mind on the body, you improve body awareness and concentration.
  • By learning how to locate the work of specific muscles, you rebalance the body, strengthening weak muscles and releasing tense ones.
  • You learn how to move well, in a relaxed and efficient way.
  • Although special attention is paid to the core muscles, which support good posture, Pilates works the whole body.
  • Exercises are performed while breathing deeply, improving concentration, increasing lung capacity and alleviating tension. The exercises stimulate the circulatory system, oxygenating the blood and reviving the body.
  • The exercises counteract poor posture and aches and pains caused by sedentary lifestyles, and aid recovery from injuries.
  • After a Pilates session, you will feel relaxed and energised and walk taller.

Pilates is suitable for men and women of all ages. It is popular with performers, for whom good posture is essential, and with athletes, who need to maintain balanced strength. It is highly recommended for people who are returning to exercise or have never exercised before, who need to work gradually to build confidence, co-ordination and strength. It is excellent for improving joint mobility and strength in elderly people and for post-operative rehabilitation.












Body Control Pilates - Matwork



In mat-based Pilates classes, no special machinery is needed and the body’s own weight supplies the resistance required.

Murielle Carrasco teaches Body Control Pilates in relaxed and friendly classes that are small enough (normally a maximum of 12 people) to ensure individual attention to each student.

Classes are available for beginners and more advanced students.

The Garage Studio provides all equipment needed for the classes. Just wear comfortable clothing, no trainers needed.


Pilates Classes prices:


Pilates Beginners: Core stability/ body awareness. 60 min: 10 classes £100/ £12 per class.
Pilates General: Beyond basic Pilates. 75 min: 10 classes £125/ £15 per class.

Note: The classes are not suitable for pregnant women but Pilates: Beginners is ideal for post-natal rehabilitation. For One-to-One lessons, including antenatal lessons, contact Murielle.


Pilates Studio

Dominique Christou and Jill Taylor teach Pilates using special machines based on Joseph Pilates’ original designs. These machines, such as the Reformer, use springs and pulleys to provide resistance and guide the body as it learns to perform the exercises.




Dominique’s and Jill’s sessions are tailored to the individual.  You can choose between one-to-one sessions and group sessions of up to three people.

Note: Sessions which new mothers can attend with their babies are  available by arrangement.
