Dominique welcomes all who are wishing to learn Pilates in the Studio environment.
Dominique Christou teaches Pilates using special apparatus based on Joseph Pilates’ original designs. These machines, such as the Reformer, use springs and pulleys to provide resistance and guide the body as it learns to perform the exercises.
Dominique trained as a professional dancer at Arts Educational School and gained a Diploma with Honours in Modern Dance in 1977.
Her studies included Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Martha Graham Technique and Jazz Dance, Luigi Technique, which led to a successful career as a Jazz dancer, performing in theatre, television and film.
Dominique was introduced to the Pilates Method after sustaining a serious lower back injury. She spent two years rehabilitating her back with Physiotherapy and Pilates, under the supervision of Alan Herdman (one of the most senior Pilates teacher in the UK). She eventually become pain free and was inspired to take the training, gaining valuable experiential knowledge of working with back pain.
Dominique’s sessions are tailored to the individual. You can choose between one-to-one sessions and group sessions of up to three people.
Payments may be made by cash, cheque or bank transfer.
- "I started taking Pilates classes on the special apparatus with Dominique in April 2006. This was very effective in dealing with past injuries, and since then has been very valuable in addressing other health issues. The exercises she has instructed me in have also improved my appearance and although the years are passing I still look good in a bikini. Dominique is a very attentive, caring and professional instructor who tailors an exercise programme to suit your personal needs.”

- "Dominique’s professional and holistic personalised approach to the remedial Pilates that I have been practising with her over a number of years now has aided and speeded up limb and joint rehabilitation and keeps me mobile – I understand much better than in the past just how much my body can do without injury. Her creativity keeps classes interesting."

- “I tried Pilates for the first time many years ago and found that I really enjoyed it. Over 10 years later my weekly session with Dominique has become an essential part of my routine and helps to counteract the remainder of my week which, like many other people, is spent sitting at a desk in front of a computer.”
- Ursula Baxter
- “I have been doing Studio Pilates with Dominque for nearly 7 years. I went to get help with a dodgy knee and have found Dominque’s tuition extremely helpful. She is very patient teacher who combines encouragement with challenging you to do more. I have no doubt that I am much fitter and more supple as a result of doing pilates with her and the muscles around my errant knee are much stronger. She is also great fun.”
